MY STORY

I started lifting weights after losing my brother and being diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Exercise became my strongest antidepressant and it wasn't long before I stopped needing to be medicated. I was extremely anxious walking into the weights area for the first time as I was often the only woman there, surrounded by men. But I learned the only way to beat the anxiety was to face it head on and every time I stepped into that room, I was taking control. This is where my passion and love for fitness really started and became a leading force in how I handle most life moments.

  • My bodybuilding journey began after I had my daughter as I was determined to show her that being a mum does not mean losing yourself. I wanted to prove that having a baby doesn't "ruin" your body. I became obsessed with the discipline, the pride and the sense of achievement that came with pushing myself while raising a toddler. That passion led me to study sports nutrition while working in a supplement store. I left my career in hairdressing to follow what truly fulfilled me.

    I was in a toxic relationship with little support. I was constantly belittled, made to feel guilty for having big goals and fell back into a depressive state. Leaving that situation was the best decision I ever made. When I met Liam, my now husband, everything changed. He saw potential in me before I could see it in myself. He encouraged my goals, made me believe that no dream is too big, and together we became relentless in chasing what we wanted. We set goals, support each other and do whatever it takes to make them happen.

    Now we have two young children and our biggest passion is raising them with a healthy mindset around nutrition and body image. I want to give them what I never had growing up, knowledge, confidence and a strong foundation in living a healthy lifestyle.

MY STORY

I'm a father, husband, underground coal miner, business owner and competitive bodybuilder living in Mackay, Queensland. I grew up in Brisbane and have been passionate about sports and physical activity for as long as I can remember. From rugby, tennis, volleyball and soccer to skateboarding, athletics, karate, Muay Thai and boxing. No matter the sport, I learned that the more effort and dedication I put in, the better I became. A common ground for all sports and becoming better was to improve your physical body with training in the gym and that’s where I began to fall in love with weight training. 

  • I remember being a teenager, flipping through a bodybuilding magazine and coming across an article on Lee Priest; I was in awe and disgusted but completely fascinated by his physique. My dad bought us weights when we were teenagers and showed me how to train properly, focusing on control and form. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with self-improvement, eating the right foods for performance and how proper training drives progression. Seeing my body change and knowing it was the result of my hard work was addictive.

    I competed for the first time in 2014 at 86 kgs and have been competing ever since & I have now achieved several top 3 placings. Over the years, I have placed in multiple competitions, winning the Queensland Overall Title in 2022 and taking first in the Queensland Super Heavies in 2024 at 111 kgs. I also placed third in Australia in the Super Heavyweight division that year. But beyond competing, I found something even more fulfilling; helping others achieve their fitness goals. 

    Nothing compares to guiding someone toward their best physique and passing on knowledge that actually works. I understand the struggles of balancing fitness with shift work, being away from home, raising a family, and running a business. I know what it is like to be exhausted but still get the work done. But I also know that with the right plan, mindset, and support, anything is possible.

    I joined the TT community at the end of last year, I was initially reluctant about joining as I thought the TT purpose was to assist people with getting stage ready (comp prep) and that wasn’t the path I was chasing however I was pleasantly surprised. Once I reached out to Jaydene and explained my objectives, she was so welcoming and supportive of my long term lifestyle goals and was not at all concerned that I didn’t want to go on stage. I needed a bit of a diet and exercise reset and she was all onboard and here for it.

    I’m so grateful to have a supportive coach and Jaydene has been very accomodating to my ever-changing schedule. I have both a set meal plan and a flexible food log, as I move around a lot and don’t always have my meals with me, I fill out the daily food tracker which has macros calculated specifically for me and helps me to stay on track with food whilst I’m away. Jaydene has been very prompt with writing up training programs on request and also made me a travel program so if I’m using hotel gyms or have limited equipment I can do that program. I have really enjoyed learning about the macros in all my food and have slowly made more conscious decisions about what I eat and drink. I have not felt restricted or starving on my meal plan (and I’m currently in a 300 calorie deficit) which is unreal. When you are eating the right foods, 1800 cals can actually be a lot of food!!
